Honourable Chief Minister of Tamilnadu inaugurated the scheme on 1st March 2020 across all 429 Panchayats. We used Miyawaki method of plantation where it helps to build a dense forest within a short span of time with a Mortality Rate of Less than 1%. The Forest cover in Ramanathapuram District is only 1% where it is supposed to be 33% in the Total Geographical Area of any State.
Each mini forest has 500 Saplings planted in 500 Sq.mtr area with 14 varieties of native species trees. In many places where the Dumping yards are converted into Mini forest, Encroachments in Government land have been removed and carried out this plantation. I thank Director, Rural Development Department for sanctioning 300 wells exclusively for Mini Forest in our District. I also thank District Collector, Ramnad & ADRD, MGNREGS for continuous support and guidance for making this project a grand success. My Special appreciation to Shri. Nagarajan (DDH, Dindugal), Smt. Sivarani EE RD, AEEs/AEs/BDOs/Z.Dy. BDOs/Panchayat Secretaries/Overseers and finally panchayat presidents for his/her dedicated efforts to protect and save nature.
